GI JOE in 1986 brought us Series Five, the height of the G.I. Joe craze. And with that, another figure based on a real person. The Fridge, William "Refrigerator" Perry, was first available as a mail-order offer from Hasbro Direct in 1986. Other notable G.I. Joes added to the ever growing roster were the medic, Lifeline, Hawk saw himself promoted to General, Roadblock got a makeover and a bigger gun, while Mainframe kept the computer systems running. For Cobra, the genetically engineered Serpentor gives Cobra Commander a run for his money as the leader of Cobra. The Cobra infantry is increased with the introduction of the Viper, the robotic B.A.T., Motor-Viper, and Strato-Viper. Zartan's family comes to light, with his sister Zarana and brother Zandar. The Thunder Machine is driven by Dreadnok Thrasher.
